Beginning of 2019 Fieldwork, March 2019
In March I was leaving the UK behind to travel to Jordan to conduct more fieldwork and to collect more sediment samples for the British Academy Fellowship Project. The time in Jordan was divided over two main Neolithic archaeological projects: the Sharara Project (https://www.neolithicsharara.org/) co-directed by Prof Bill Finlayson and Prof Cheryl Makarewicz; and the Eastern Badia Archaeological Project (https://oi.uchicago.edu/research/projects/eastern-badia) co-directed by Dr Yorke Rowan, Prof Gary Rollefson and Dr Alexander Wasse.
Fieldwork at Sharara was for three weeks, located in Wadi Hasa. This project involved a four hour hike up the Wadi to the campsite. We camped on a plateau near to the Pre-Pottery Neolithic B (PPNB) site of Wadi Hammerash. We then hiked one hour each day further up the Wadi to the Pre-Pottery Neolithic A site of Sharara. We had a successful excavation season, in a beautiful and remote location. Here I was involved in excavation as well as collecting a range of sediment samples for my British Academy fellowship.
